Hot take everyone needs at least one creative hobby to accompany their consumptive ones. I don’t mean just art and writing I mean literally anything where you create something.
Embroidery, cooking, knitting, gardening, wood whittling, trap making, needle felting, instrument playing, bug raising, fandom analysis writing, ANYTHING where you do work and can hold the fruits of your labor in you hands. Anything where you MAKE something else.
Something that isn’t a career choice. Something you don’t have to be good at. As long as it brings you joy.
Please get hobbies, they enrich your life.

I can’t even count all those men i know who have literally no hobby at all. You can collect butterflies or postcards. Make plane models or fantasy game figurines. Print your own t-shirts or paint sneakers. Make your own fishing lures. Train your dog agility. Train your CAT agility. Whatever as long as your whole free time doesn’t mean just pasively watching tv or gaming.
Women i know usualy don’t have such problem. Sure, they may be busy. And sure, they may only use sewing machine only twice per year for something else than slim fitting those jeans that don’t fit around waist. But they do have such hobbies. How many times did you see a woman longingly petting yarn balls in craft shop? How many times did you see them running their inner calculations while deciding which iris bulbs to get? How many times did you see them wearing obviously handmade ear rings? And how many times did you see men doing the same?
It’s sad how ever since kindergarden, little boys are led to be bread makers, how they are said to learn to fix stuff, to fight, to work in any and every sense possible, but then they grow up, have a free weekend and… And then what? Where’s the fun? Where’s the creativity? The effort put into your time?
I’ve seen this happening in my family and in my friends. It took dad 15 years to understand that workoholism and movies aren’t the only ways how to fill his evenings. It took 3 years of being a senior to my granpa to figure out that hate-mumbling while moving from kitchen to living room and back isn’t how he wants spend his pension. And it took a nasty break with shouting and throwing things on each other for my coworker to realize that having a partner doesn’t mean cracking one open and watch sports all night every night.
Get yourself a fishing licence. Bake cookies on weekend. Plant those seeds into soil and nurse them into big tomato bushes on your balcony or patio. Pay for a hang gliding classes. Paint your walls crazy colours. Tour museums. Start an aquarium. Learn to knit. Sing. Vlog about inns and pubs in your area. Bring some active fun into your life!
